Bardelys The Magnificent on French TV next Sunday
King Vidor's rediscovered silent will premiere on French TV next Sunday night. I'll tell you all about it next Monday with screen captures and everything!
In the meantime, here is some comments about it from the Pordenone Film festival brochure (available online) by a specialist.

Christine, Ed, Alison, Everybody,
Yes, I am very excited for the opportunity to see this picture. I wonder why they put an ugly Wig on Eleanor though? Shen didn't need a Wig. Is there any more news about Gilbert's MONTE CHRISTO (1922) with Estelle Taylor, or what ever else might be included in the Flicker Alley set?
It is still very hard to believe that BARDELYS a film that had been lost for over 40 years, will be the very first King Vidor Silent that has been issued on official DVD. Before the likes of not only THE BIG PARADE, LA BOHEME, and THE CROWD, but also PEG O' MY HEART, WINE OF YOUTH, THE PATSY, and SHOW PEOPLE among others. Who would have felt that would ever be the case?

Ed,
Frank Borzage, and Clarence Brown are not exactly well remembered either today. And James Cruze is even more forgotten than Vidor. Hopefully, some of these guys will start getting some well deserved attention soon. It doesn't help Vidor that none of his Silent's are on DVD yet, and probably only 2 or 3 of his sound films.
