Here’s our special Record Party tribute to your two favorite
singers!! Hope this spices up your Friday night!
Hey Dewey, thank you for the tribute to JG and CA. :D Yep, online friends end up calling me PT, which is A-OK by me.

I've had the good fortune to see Aznavour in concert several times during the 1980s and '90s, but sadly never Garland, who passed away when I was eight years old. But I have her whole TV series from 1963-64 on DVD, which must be the next best thing. 8)

Cheers.

A splash from Belgium, one of the grand masters of la chanson de variété, which these days is a dying art form -- Jacques Brel (who was also the reason I learned french in night courses 20-25 years ago):

There once was a gang of young musicians attending Austin High School
(Mrs. ChiO’s alma mater, but much later) on Chicago’s West Side who
played together and with other Chicagoans their age. They soon became
known in jazz circles as…The Austin High Gang.

On tenor sax, BUD FREEMAN “Satanic Blues”

On trumpet, JIMMY McPARTLAND “Panama”

A bunch of the Gang. JIMMY McPARTLAND on trumpet, EDDIE CONDON
on banjo, FRANK TESCHEMACHER on clarinet, BUD FREEMAN on tenor sax,
JOE SULLIVAN on piano and GENE KRUPA on drums “China Boy”

More of some of the above Gang members, plus MEZZ MEZZROW
and MUGGSY SPANIER “Jazz Me Blues”

BENNY GOODMAN “Roll ‘em”

Well, well, well. I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised to learn that the
phenomenal genius that was and always will be TIMOTHY CAREY was
born in the great sign of Pisces! DJ Nancy asked for a dirge to honor
the Man’s birthday and I suppose this will have to do: a bizarre scene
from the epic POOR WHITE TRASH, which starts with TC doing a dance
to the music that could only be going on in his own head, culminating with
a bit of cinematic weirdness that more or less speaks for itself…

Ahhhh...the perfect opportunity to post one of my all-time
favorite songs! I just didn't know when. After experiencing
Dr. Dewey's post, I feel now's the time.

In keeping with the indisputably weird and whacked-out tone
established by the wonderful Mr. Carey’s birthday dance and
my lovely wife’s follow-up ditty, the Record Party is pleased
to present…
