Kate Winslet Amanda Root the luck of draw

Post by stuart.uk »

When Emma Thompson was preparing Sense And Sensibilty, it looked like Amanda Root was going to play the part of Thompson's sister in the film, but when it came time to shot the film Amanda was already committed to the female lead in another movie called Persuasion. As a result Kate Winslet got the role and went on to make Titanic, Finding Neverland, The Reader and is now one of greatest UK actresses of all time. In contrast Amanda is a brilliant unsung actress, who I enoyed as Winifred Dartie in the most recent mini series version of The Fosythe Saga. I was reminded of Amanda today when watching her give a great performance in the Catherine Cookson tv movie The Man Who Cried
